Reading the book or watching the movie?

Feb 20, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: geek, movies

I always heard that a book is 100 times better than a movie based on the book. After reading Memoirs of a Geisha and Interview with a Vampire I came to the same conclusion.

Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden

memoirs of a geisha

I first read the book then I saw the movie. Arthur Golden describes the poor house, the village, Chiyo’s mother in a dramatic way and her sister a bit older. When I read the book I imagined a house that’s one second away from falling apart, a sick woman that looks more like a skeleton and Chiyo’s eyes lighter. In the movie the house doesn’t look at all that poor and the girl’s eyes are not Blue-Grey as Arthur described. Also the thing I hated about the movie was the fact that they gave little attention to the tea ritual and the art of make up and kimono.

There were also misinterpretations of mizuage, the ceremony which Arthur Golden said in his book that consists in deflowering the geisha. In fact the truth is that this ceremony means that the geisha has come to adulthood which consists in changing her hairstyle and clothing.

Anyway, I liked the book better.

Interview with the Vampire - Anne Rice

I read the book after I watched the movie. When I first saw Interview with a Vampire it gave me the chills. The room was dark, everybody was asleep, outside a storm was messing with the town and I was watching Brad Pitt as Louis and Tom Cruise as Lestat sucking blood out of young ladies. Yes, the movie is great but there are things in the book that are much better described and some interesting scenes were cut out of the movie. I guess the movie is just too long and they had to cut something out to make it shorter.

Yes, the book is way much better than the movie. That if you still read books!

Roy Schneider is gone!

Another Hollywood star has passed away. This time the Grim Reaper took the life of shark slayer Roy Schneider. He was 75. In 1971 Roy was nominated to Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for The French Connection directed by Gene Hackman and in 1979 he earned another Oscar nominee for All That Jazz.

I bet many of you recall Roy Schneider as the sheriff who killed the sharks in Jaws, Steven Spielberg’s movie from 1975.

For now the cause of death is unknown but the hospital spokesman stated that Schneider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital’s Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

May he rest in peace!

Cartoons: Suicidal squirrels

Jan 25, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Video, death, movies

Tell me something. How am I supposed to let my children watch this kind of cartoons? No wonder so many kids end up dead after watching cartoons and movies that are too violent. Can’t you people see how much harm you are doing to our kids? Can’t you see that this is not normal?
I bet no normal parent would want his or her child to end up dead after watching these cartoons that were very popular on AXN.

Great people who died too young

They say death has nothing to do with age, sex or location. Still the Grim Reaper decided it was time for some great people to leave this world and he chose Hollywood’s best actors, actresses and musicians.

Let’s see some of the best people that died too early.

1. Rudolph Valentino

In May 1895 Hollywood met Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Piero Filiberto Guglielmi. Later he was about to become the famous Latin Lover, Rudolph Valentino. He was Italian, sexy and an icon of mute movies, such as The Sheik. In August 1926 Valentino collapsed at the Hotel Ambassador in New York City. He had perforated ulcer and has underwent surgery. In August 23 1926 the Latino Lover died. He was 31. Many people mourned his death and felt sorry for him for wasting his life with wives like Natacha Rambova and Jean Acker. (more…)

Stupid people!

That was all I could think about when I was reading about the man behind Westboro Baptist Church, Fred Phelps.

My message to Fred Phelps : You are an IDIOT!

The guy pretends to be a moral adviser and a good “reverend” but he’s nothing but a ignorant, selfish and narrow minded man. On the site Godhatesfags.com Fred Phelps said he will be picketing Heath Ledger’s funeral.

My God, that man doesn’t know the difference between reality and movies? That man is just sick. Heath was no gay man, he played the role of a gay man but on the set for Brokeback Mountain he fell in love with Michelle Williams, the mother of his child, Matilda Rose.

Where is this world going if stupid people like Fred Phelps are so popular and an actor is blamed for a role?!

“Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there - beside which, nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevant or consequential.”

Leave the man rest in peace. He was a great man, wonderful actor and there’s nothing you can do to change that image.

By the way, it seems that Heath was sick with pneumonia. The autopsy is set for today and the result will be public in a few weeks.

Heath Ledger died

The Australian actor Heath Ledger, age 28 was found dead in his Manhattan residence Tuesday, 22 January 2008. For now the cause of death is unknown but police sources say that near the body some prescription-type drugs were found. The family insists that Heath didn’t commit suicide using drugs or pills. The medics pronounced him dead at 3:45 p.m.

He was found by his maid naked and facedown at the foot of his bed.

Heath was famous for his roles in A Knight’s tale, 10 things I hate about you and much discussed Brokeback Mountain.

Even though he played the role of a gay men, Heath fell in love with Michelle Williams, on the set for Brokeback Mountain.

They soon moved in and started to build the nest for young Matilda Rose, the product of their love, born in October 2005.

In 2006 Heath was nominated for an Academy Award - Best Actor, for his role in Brokeback Mountain and Michelle Williams was nominated for Best Supporting actress for the same movie. Unfortunately they didn’t got the awards.

In October 2007 Williams and Ledger got separated and soon after he was spotted kissing Mary Kate Olsen, one of the two scary twins.

In July 2008 his last movie will be released. The Dark Knight, Batman Begins (2005) sequel is going to hit the cinema and Michael Caine said on MTV that Heath’s performance is “one of the scariest performances I’ve ever seen.”
May God rest his soul in peace!
